Can You Choose Your Inheritance?

I was wondering how many of you have watched that old documentary ‘Super Size Me’? As I was writing the other day something can to mind. Do you remember the testimonial given by the mother about mid-way through, in defense of an inability to lose weight?
If you have not seen it, this mother tells a story about how her parents were overweight, and “Her great grandfather was so big he had to be buried in a piano box”. Insinuating that heredity or genetic inheritance was the reason her and her daughter were overweight. Tell me this, do you think this mother's comparison or description in relation to your own personal weight situation is accurate?

For many of us this mothers view is a rationale observation that makes perfect sense in our minds. Just think about her argument - her grandfather was overweight, her parents were overweight, she is currently overweight, and it’s only in accordance with the previous trend that her daughter has become overweight.

This scenario made me wonder, how many of us have concluded that our genetic inheritance was given to us and there’s nothing we can do about?

Well let’s dismiss that tale, because it proves to be invalid or as some would say partially true!

Our parents can place us at risk for diseases such as obesity. However unlike your nose size or eye color, it will be The Way Of Your Daily Living that will ultimately determine your level of risk. So Guess what there is something we can do about our current state.

Let me introduce/remind you of risk factors:

Primary risks = cannot change                 Secondary risks = can change
        Age                                                             Sedentary (without exercise)
        Gender                                                        Increased Body Weight
        Heredity                                                      Stress Level

We are aware that while we cannot change primary risks we can very well incorporate habits that will improve or eliminate secondary risks. If we take a closer look we would recognize that our natural qualities, are more than able to improve our current state (i.e. exercising & eating well). Those things are good but, what we fail to see is we have something greater working on our behalf & fending for our lives. WHAT you may ask?
A Spiritual heredity (An Added Benefit) promised only to Believer's. Look at the big picture - addition to our physical heredity we have a spiritual heredity from our Heavenly Father that offers each of us supernatural genes. AND GUESS WHAT  it is to this we want to become helpless/hopeless. I mean it's only fitting considering He has overcome, His people in time past have overcome, that NOW you and I in accordance with this Spirit-ual inheritance can also overcome.
What do you think? Which inheritance will you choose?
