Two is better than one

This being the time to give creative attention to couples, giving, & LOVE, I thought this may spark your interest.

I was recently reading a friends blog www.futureskinnychic.blogspot.com, where the writer invites us into her journey to weight loss. In this particular post, she gave attention to her pleasure and success in this recent journey comparing it to previous times she committed herself to similar trips. The highlight of the post was having someone she loves - her husband, take this journey with her. The self-assessment made appeared to line up with all other scientific data which states exercising with those that support and love you serves as a source of motivation for all involved. The writer went on to mention that in time past ‘when one was ready to embark on this journey the other wanted to lay on the couch eating burgers’. Environments like this will almost always make it impossible to produce successful results.

Two things I would like to highlight for those that may not have a spouse and for those that may have children - Your creative love does not have to be limited or denied.

  1. For those that are not married, your partner could be a friend, co-worker, parent, teenage child etc. Find that someone that wants to support you through or take this journey with you.
  2. For those married with children we (me included) have to take a slightly different approach to our exercise times. Unlike the writer of the blog mentioned above, who happens to be married without children (MNC), we can’t just go workout together, unless we are willing to pay for child care (don’t think so). If you are anything like us, exercise times will have to be placed on rotation (T,TH,S for one and M,W,S for the other) so that one of us is able to be home with the children. What is most necessary when doing it this way, be sure you are supportive and consistently motivating the other to avoid scheduling other activities during their work times.
Although you are not spending 45 min -1hr exercising side by side, keep in mind there are things you can do together to receive that same motivation and drive in this journey. For example, making time in the AM or late PM to do exercises like crunchers, stretching, push-ups, or a Pilates DVD together.

I ran across this article on the 8 steps of living healthier together, you can clique on the link if you want to read it in more detail:

You know I never thought about the difficulties that parents can face when trying to schedule workouts and things like that. Your suggestions are awesome and can even be adapted for couples who have different work schedules from their partners. I think the overall point is that we're more successful when we have love, encouragement, and support from those closest to us. This entry helped me to see that. Thanks
